How do I stop my fan belt being thrown off on an XE.
Did it for the first time tonight and I don't want it to happen again?
thought it was aligned ok but obviously not

Flipping fan belts
Check allignment, by using the straight edge on EACH pulleys individually.
Mine turned out to just be an alternator bracket which had not been welded at precisely 90 degrees.
Previously I had been checking it using the crank as a base point.
Solved by spacing with washers.

Well I lined it up to about 1/2 mm as it was around 6mm out. Thought that was it but after a quick blat, bleeding thing came off again ...
What does the SBD kit consist of and is it rubber mounted and does it need to be and how much is it? (so many and's)
Ta very much

Problem may be caused by increase in RPM as xe runs to 6000 in standard injection (cav astra calibra) but in westi with carbs etc will rev to just under 8000 rpm
May be worth getting different sized crank pulley (spd again me thinks) |

I do not have a Vauxhall.
What is the Crank pulley - toothed or v groove
If it is a v groove, is there space to machine the pulley down to a smaller size. If so I will give you contact details for Gard engineering in Rayleigh. They charged me £30
If not, or as well, can you put a bigger pulley on alternator. As this changes ratio, and reduces alternator axel speed? |
